Scones, sponges and a TV sports personality might seem an unusual mix, but they were all part of the fun at our 2017 Summer Fete earlier this month. We raised a staggering £1,200 and welcomed nearly 300 friends, family and local people to enjoy the gardens of our home in full bloom.
We were delighted former Grandstand and Sportsnight presenter Steve Rider was able to officially open our annual event this year. He kicked off the proceedings and stuck around to chat as guests enjoyed an afternoon of cream teas and speciality pies prepared by our award winning kitchen team, a tombola, and lots of stalls and traditional fun and games.
A fantastic total of £1,200 was raised through the event for Exeter Dementia Action Alliance and the Exeter Leukemia Fund. Steve’s late-brother Martin, a former resident at Green Tree Court, was a patron of the Exeter Leukemia Fund.
Much of the money was raised through our raffle, which featured lots of tempting prizes kindly donated by local businesses, including gym membership and a delicious Fortnum’s hamper from our directors. As well as ensuring the lucky ticket holders went home very happy, we’re thrilled to be able to give something back to these two important local organisations, which do so much to help so many.
The fete had a real family atmosphere and was a great chance for all ages to have lots of fun together. Making our luxury, purpose-built home as welcoming as possible for our residents and their families is a crucial part of what we do.
As well as organising this event, we regularly welcome children from local schools to Green Tree Court to talk to our residents. This not only helps the children learn more about the past, it’s also something we know many of our residents really look forward to. We’ve also got play equipment, which the younger members of our residents’ families always enjoy playing on as well as our ever-popular fish tank, which is fascinating to every age.
