We recently welcomed a group of eight French students to Green Tree Court. The students, who are studying social care in France, were really interested in seeing our Care Quality Commission “outstanding” approach to caring for older people and people living with dementia. The day proved a big success as both our residents and the students thoroughly enjoyed meeting each other, with some very interesting questions being asked from both sides.
Mixing younger and older people has been shown to be beneficial to the wellbeing for both. Developing connections with a younger generation can help older adults feel a greater sense of fulfilment and offer other benefits, including:
- Providing an opportunity to learn new skills
- Stimulating the mind and creating a chance for new conversations
- Reducing isolation
- Broadening social circles
- Helping to keep family stories and history alive
